A census counted only 242 Sokehs people, a legacy of the 1911 German deportation after the Sokehs Rebellion.

What happened

In 1911 Germany had deported the remaining Sokehs people, including women and children, to Palau, and they were allowed back only between 1917 and 1927. Historian Thomas Morlang cites the 1947 figure of 242 Sokehs people to show how deeply the exile cut the community.
