The teacher-training school moved from Guam to Truk and was renamed the Pacific Islands Teacher Training School (PITTS).
What happened
The school moved to Chuuk to be more central in the Trust Territory, and its job was to train Micronesian teachers. It later became a full secondary school, the Pacific Islands Central School, which moved to Pohnpei in 1959.
Why it matters
The school trained a generation of leaders, including Tosiwo Nakayama, the FSM’s first president.
