Fr. Francis X. Hezel founded the Micronesian Seminar (MicSem) at Xavier High School, Truk; it later moved to Pohnpei.

What happened

MicSem began with a few boxes of books in a small room at Xavier High School. It became a leading research and community-education organization in the region, working on political status, economic development and social problems such as suicide.

Why it matters

Its publications, many by Hezel, are among the main sources for Micronesian history.
