Congress elections gave the new Kosrae district two senators (Joab Sigrah, Hirosi Ismael) and re-elected Olter, Nakayama and Mangefel.

What happened

These were the last territory-wide elections; the 1978 elections were cancelled as the territory split. The Marianas no longer took part after becoming a US commonwealth, and the House now had 22 seats, with seven from Truk.
