Two Spanish vessels are cut off at Yap and their crews killed; two Filipino boys survive.
What happened
The two Spanish vessels, a brig and a schooner, were looking for bêche-de-mer. The trader Woodin later wrote that the Ibedul of Koror, in Palau, angry that the Spanish would not come to trade with him, ordered the Yapese to attack; Cheyne met one of the surviving Filipino boys on Yap in 1843.
