Americans Kirkland and Isaac Hussey settle at Lelu to trade with whalers.
What happened
Isaac Hussey was a Nantucket whaling captain who had shot a seaman while putting down a mutiny aboard his ship Planter; the ship left him on Kosrae, where he lived for about two years. He signed on as master of the William Penn at Kosrae in 1852 and was killed in another mutiny soon afterward.
