With 20 church members and 100 hearers, Snow leaves Kosrae for the Marshalls, returning yearly.
What happened
After ten years with only about 20 church members, Snow moved to Ebon in the Marshall Islands to start a new mission station, returning to Kosrae for yearly visits. Habele says he left after ordaining a Kosraean pastor, and for the next 17 years mission work on Kosrae was in Kosraean hands.
Why it matters
The church’s growth after 1864, to 197 members by 1867, happened while Kosraeans themselves led the mission.
