USS Jamestown receives complaints against trader Ben Pease.

What happened

Ben Pease was a Honolulu-based trader who in 1867 boasted he would “drive every missionary from Micronesia,” and Kosrae’s chief had refused to let him open a trading station. USS Jamestown, cruising Micronesia to investigate charges against Pease, heard complaints about him from the chief and from the owner of an English trading ship in port.
