German warship SMS Hertha forces the return of property stolen from an English trader and surveys outer islands.

What happened

The German navy corvette Hertha was sent to map the area and protect the interests of German and British traders. Besides Yap, it surveyed Ngulu, Satawal, Lamotrek, Elato, Ifalik, Woleai, Fais, Ulithi and Faraulep.
