Spanish ships San Quintín and Manila arrive with a governor, soldiers and priests to found a colony.
What happened
The ships carried a new governor, two priests, convict laborers, soldiers, livestock and building materials for a church and governor’s residence, and they spent several days choosing a site and planning a ceremony. Spanish-language accounts date the San Quintín’s arrival to 21 August and the Manila’s to 22 August; the MicSem ship list names the second ship Carriedo.
