A new governor replaces Cadarso; five governors serve in quick succession over 1891–1894.
What happened
The new governor twice visited the Kitti mission school, giving each student a peso, but none of the five governors of 1891–1894 managed to ease the tension; the Capuchins complained that each settled for placating the chiefs. After the 1890 war Cadarso had urged an American warship to remove the Protestant missionaries, leaving Henry Nanpei as the leading Protestant on the island.
