Typhoon leaves “scarcely half a dozen houses” standing and nearly destroys breadfruit and coconut (outline: six houses destroyed, no deaths).
What happened
Spennemann’s typhoon history says the storm of 3–4 March 1891 damaged or destroyed most of the island; mission accounts say “scarcely half a dozen houses were left standing” and breadfruit and coconut trees were almost wholly destroyed, causing severe food shortages. The COM-FSM outline instead says six houses were destroyed and no one died.
