The seat of the Catholic prefecture moves to Yap; the last Spanish priest leaves the Carolines mission.

What happened

Fr. Venantius Duffner moved the prefecture’s seat from Kolonia to Yap because the newly completed cable station there let him communicate easily with the outside world. The departure of the last Spanish priest ended the Spanish Capuchin mission that had begun in 1886.
