A tuna cannery opens on Pohnpei.
What happened
After the cannery opened, settlers from northern Japan, Tōhoku and Hokkaidō, arrived in greater numbers, some as fishermen and others as farmers. Tuna fishing and dried-bonito (katsuobushi) factories on Pohnpei and Chuuk helped make the mandate self-supporting.
