The Jesuits opened Xavier High School on Mabuchi hill, Moen (Weno), the first high school in the Trust Territory.

What happened

The school was built on Mabuchi hill, where a Japanese wartime communications center had stood. Bishop Thomas Feeney first planned it as a minor seminary to train local clergy, but it soon became a college-preparatory school.

Why it matters

Its graduates include FSM presidents Joseph Urusemal, Manny Mori and Peter Christian.
