A UN Visiting Mission chaired by Enrique de Marchena toured the Trust Territory, reaching Nauru from Majuro on 10 Mar 1953.

What happened

The mission’s members came from the Dominican Republic, France, Syria and the United Kingdom. It left New York on 12 February 1953 with orders to report on progress toward self-government and to receive petitions from islanders. It visited the Trust Territory before flying on to Nauru.
