Governor Resio Moses signs the law creating the Ponape State Leadership Conference on political status.
What happened
The conference brought together legislators, the nahnmwarkis and nahnkens (the traditional paramount chiefs), cabinet officers and municipal leaders to discuss Ponape’s political status, opening on 6 February 1984. It came a few months after Ponape became the only state to vote against the Compact, though the newsletter does not state the law’s reasons.
