What happened
In Truk, Nick Bossy beat Sasao Gouland, who had chaired Congress’s Resources and Development committee since 1979, by 1,869 votes to 1,406. Peter Christian held Pohnpei’s District 3 with 873 votes in a five-way race, and Speaker Bethwel Henry was easily re-elected.
Why it matters
Christian later became Speaker in 2003 and the eighth FSM president in 2015.
