Bank of the FSM begins operating; its Tofol grand opening is held 23 July.

What happened

The Bank of the FSM opened in Tofol as Kosrae’s second commercial bank, after the Bank of Hawaii in 1985. It had over 1,300 shareholders, 500 of them from Kosrae, and President Nakayama urged people to invest in it and use it.
