Pohnpei dedicates its first fish processing plant at Dekehtik, costing $10.3 million, with about 85 jobs.
What happened
The plant was built to process 7.5 tons of fish a day, and Vice President Nena said it marked a shift from exporting raw fish to exporting processed products. Looking back, Francis Hezel found that the $56 million FSM governments put into fishing ventures in the early 1990s produced no profitable business.
