The 2023 census counts 75,817 people, about 26% fewer than in 2010.
What happened
The fall came mainly from emigration under the Compact’s visa-free entry to the US. The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) says it has worsened shortages of skilled workers, raised the cost per student and patient, reduced government revenue and changed how funds are split among the states. A 2025 news report cited about 113,000 people, but the census figure is better supported.
