Lütke heaves to off Chuuk for about a day, mistaking it for Quirós’s “Quirosa.”
What happened
Lütke traded with the few Chuukese he could persuade to come aboard and noted weapons, probably slings worn around the head, that he had not seen in the Mortlocks. He learned that people called their islands “Ruk,” not “Hogoleu,” and the name Ruk (later Truk) spread among Europeans through his report.
