The Senyavin reaches Lukunor and spends about three weeks surveying the Mortlocks, finding iron tools in use.
What happened
At Lukunor a chief carrying a bone-handled knife came aboard only when offered another to match it, and Lütke found that iron axes had entirely replaced stone and shell ones. Two Mortlockese knew some Spanish words, and Lütke called the people “hospitable, good, reserved and well-mannered.” Lütke’s own French edition suggests a stay closer to two weeks than Hezel’s three.
