Benjamin Morrell’s schooner Antarctic trades at Kosrae.
What happened
The New York trading schooner Antarctic lay off Kosrae, which its crew called “Hope’s Island,” and traded with islanders. Benjamin Morrell later published a colorful account of this voyage, but Hezel notes that the ship’s master was actually William Skiddy and treats Morrell’s stories as largely fanciful.
