Morrell’s Antarctic repels an attack at Nukuoro, about 20 islanders killed or wounded; Morrell’s accounts are considered unreliable.

What happened

According to the MicSem list, Nukuoro islanders traded aboard the New York schooner Antarctic, went ashore, armed themselves and came back to attack; the crew drove them off with cannon and musket fire. Morrell’s own account is largely fanciful, but the list notes that a crewman’s journal (Keeler’s) gives a good factual report of the incident.
