The Kent (William Lawton) trades with Chuukese eager for iron hoop and quick to quarrel.
What happened
The British whaler Kent, under William Lawton, was one of at least 12 whaleships documented at Chuuk or nearby atolls between 1824 and 1834. After 1835 whalers largely stopped coming, as they moved to northern whaling grounds and used Pohnpei and Kosrae, with their water and food, as rest stops.
