What happened

At Pingelap on 25 November islanders attacked the Sydney whaler Nimrod, killing Captain McAuliffe and two crewmen; five islanders also died. The ship escaped to Pohnpei and put ashore nine white men it had taken aboard at Pingelap, adding to Pohnpei’s growing beach community.
