Captain and shore party of the schooner Honduras are killed at Kosrae; the ship escapes to Pohnpei.
What happened
Kosraeans boarded the Boston schooner Honduras and killed seven of its crew, while the captain and a shore party of eight were killed on land; the survivors escaped with the ship to Pohnpei. One survivor said guns were fired from shore so accurately that he believed beachcombers had helped. The MicSem list names the captain John Gordon Scott, while the COM-FSM outline calls him Captain Stock.
Why it matters
Hezel contrasts Kosrae, where a single paramount chief could act against foreigners, with Pohnpei, where rivalry among five chiefdoms meant whites could always find protection somewhere.
