Islanders show the Zotoff (Benjamin Wallis) bêche-de-mer grounds at Satawan, Lukunor and Etal.

What happened

The Salem trading bark Zotoff, under Benjamin Wallis, anchored off the Mortlocks, where islanders showed “much astonishment at sight of pigs.” On a return visit that June islanders and crew exchanged gifts and some islanders slept aboard; Hezel says contacts with the Mortlocks were “as untroubled as anywhere in the Pacific.”
