The whaler Indian Chief takes on wood and water and ships three Pohnpeians as crew.
What happened
The New London whaler Indian Chief first spent a day at Mokil, where a white resident came off to the ship, and then stayed most of February at Pohnpei. Pohnpeians were already sailing on foreign ships: in 1836 the Lambton had learned that one Pohnpeian had been to Hawaii.
