Cheyne returns and introduces another influenza epidemic that kills many Yapese.
What happened
Hezel says Cheyne brought a new influenza epidemic to Yap about twenty years after the 1843 outbreak and dates it to 1863. The MicSem list dates Cheyne’s arrival to 19 February 1864: he complained that the Yapese would not fish for him, and when influenza broke out and killed many, he suspected Tomil of planning to seize his ship and let no one aboard.
