A typhoon destroys Kitti’s church and village buildings and damages food crops.

What happened

The 1868 typhoon struck the Protestant mission settlement, then in Kitti: the church was destroyed, the mission house damaged, and all the buildings of the local village blown away. Spennemann notes that little damage was reported elsewhere on Pohnpei, suggesting the storm passed to the south, and that destructive typhoons are rare there.
