Bully Hayes acquires the schooner Neva at Kosrae.

What happened

The notorious American trader William “Bully” Hayes, then sailing the brig Leonora, got the schooner Neva from Captain Lechat at Kosrae, either by buying it or by stealing it. Habele says Hayes made Kosrae his base in the early 1870s, while the American missionaries were away; he settled at Finkol by 1874.
