What happened

Captain Frederick Narruhn came from Pohnpei, where he had business, and was the first trader since August Hartmann to take up a permanent post in Chuuk; more followed after 1885. Both Narruhn and Hartmann were later killed in the village warfare that continued until the end of the century.
