Labor strike; Sokehs and Net men wipe out alférez Martínez’s column of about 20–24 soldiers.
What happened
Posadillo’s forced-labor policy and harsh treatment led Pohnpeian workers to strike, and, in Moya’s account, the chiefs answered that “if the Governor was Governor, they were the kings there.” A column of about 20 to 24 soldiers under alférez Martínez, sent toward Sokehs, was ambushed and all but one man died; Moya says half its soldiers went over to the attackers. Sources date the strike to 30 June or 1 July.
