Measles epidemic on Pohnpei.
What happened
Missionary sources record measles on Pohnpei in 1861 and again in 1894, among the many epidemics that followed the smallpox of 1854. Hezel estimates that by the end of the century the island’s population was about 5,000, half its 1840 level.
