What happened

A Protestant teacher from Mwahnd, angry that the governor had acquitted the Soulik of Awak of murdering a Protestant leader, preached a crusade to drive the Catholics out of Pohnpei. Awak’s people at first held their fire, then counterattacked and drove off the attackers after a three-hour battle; Nanpei, suspected of supplying weapons, was released soon afterward.
