A 27-man Spanish garrison at Awak stays besieged until German ships bring news of peace.

What happened

Cabello Berdún, citing the governor’s 1898 report in Spain’s national archive, says 27 soldiers were left at Awak (spelled “Atuak”) under the second-in-command of the gunboat Villalobos. The siege lasted until German ships brought news of the peace; no Spanish source used here gives casualties.
