The German administration disarms the people of Chuuk.
What happened
Traders had sold guns and dynamite in Chuuk for years, and village warfare there had cost many lives until shortly before. Chuuk was disarmed in 1903, two years before Pohnpeians could be persuaded to give up their firearms.
Why it matters
Historians list the end of almost constant warfare in Chuuk among the lasting effects of German rule.
