Outer islanders, mostly typhoon-displaced Mortlockese, begin arriving to settle on Pohnpei.
What happened
Most of these settlers, especially Mortlockese, were moved to Pohnpei by the German administration after typhoons damaged their home islands, and their numbers grew sharply in 1912. A German source of 1920 also mentions families from Mokil and Pingelap. By 1947 nearly 700 Mortlockese and their descendants lived on Pohnpei, most in the six villages on Sokehs Island.
