The first three Franciscan sisters arrive in the Carolines mission.

What happened

The German Capuchins asked for teaching sisters to run girls’ schools. On Pohnpei the three sisters taught girls German, arithmetic and the catechism, and within two years the mission schools there had over 250 pupils, more than half of them girls; a separate group of three arrived on Yap the same month.
