A count finds 3,190 Pohnpeians, 585 Central Carolinians and 279 Melanesian soldiers.
What happened
The count was taken in the year of the Sokehs exile. The 585 Central Carolinians were outer-island settlers, most of them Mortlockese resettled after typhoons, and the Melanesian soldiers were police troops Germany had brought in from New Guinea. Riesenberg says later figures for these groups are unreliable.
