What happened

After the ships’ guns fired on the Sokehs positions, the Nürnberg’s landing force and Melanesian police under district officer Hermann Kersting took the main plateau that afternoon, though some defenders escaped. German forces then destroyed food supplies to deprive the fighters of support.
