Outer-island settlers, mostly Mortlockese, are “considerably augmented,” settling mainly in Sokehs Island’s six villages.
What happened
Riesenberg writes that outer islanders “began to arrive about 1906 and were considerably augmented in 1912,” most of them Mortlockese resettled after typhoons. They lived mainly in the six villages of Sokehs Island. Germany had declared Sokehs land government property after the 1911 exile; whether the settlers received confiscated land directly is not stated in the sources.
