Mortlocks epidemics ease; Lukunor has over 50 Catholics.
What happened
When the Catholic mission reached Lukunor in 1911, the island was still recovering from the 1907 typhoon, and dysentery and typhus were taking many lives. The priest sent to Pohnpei for medicine and a German doctor, and by early 1912 conditions had improved. Children flocked to the new German-language school, and some 200 people were preparing for baptism.
