E. Sarfert’s Hamburg expedition monograph Die Insel Kusae is published.

What happened

Ernst Sarfert did fieldwork on Kosrae with the Hamburg South Seas Expedition of 1908–1910, and his monograph Kusae appeared in the expedition’s published results; Glottolog and Wikipedia date it to 1919, not 1914, so the year here is uncertain. It recorded Kosraean society at a time when, the German encyclopedia of 1920 says, introduced disease had nearly wiped out the old culture. An English translation, Kosrae, was published in 1983.
