Japanese naval forces occupy Ponape without resistance; Japanese Wikipedia says four ships entered the harbor.
What happened
Japan, allied with Britain, entered the First World War against Germany and moved quickly on Germany’s Pacific islands. On Pohnpei the Japanese disarmed the handful of German officials and troops and searched the Catholic mission for weapons. The 7 October date comes from a 1948 US Navy handbook and a postal-history exhibit.
