A commercial registered cover to China is postmarked “Yap/Imperial Naval Post Office”.
What happened
German firms such as the West Carolines Company on Yap went on doing business for a time after Japan’s takeover, sending mail through the navy’s post offices. The cover, addressed to someone in care of the German legation in China, is known only from a postal-history exhibit.
