What happened
Seven government hospitals opened when the Nan’yō-chō began, staffed by doctors, pharmacists, nurses and midwives and treating both islanders and Japanese. By 1939 the Yap hospital had two doctors and Truk and Ponape three each. The details come from Japanese Wikipedia.
