A Japanese census counts 1,189 Kosraeans and 25 Japanese nationals.
What happened
Kosrae never had more than a few hundred Japanese at any time under Japanese rule, unlike Pohnpei and Chuuk. A few Japanese policemen kept order, and laborers came briefly for phosphate mining and a cotton plantation that failed. The figures come from a book cited by Wikipedia; no Japanese table has been found.
